AMBER THERAPY CENTER

For centuries, amber has been surrounded by a rich medicinal mystique.
It has been used in jewellery to ward off disease, its smoke is used in the fumigation of newborn babies and it is even thought to reinforce marital bonds.

The building proposal is an Amber Therapy Centre situated along the Curonian Spit of Lithuania. It explores local traditions and mystical beliefs associated with medicinal use of amber.

Every morning, amber oil is painted on the canvas skins forming the envelope of the building. Through these skins the building displays its identity, emanating the fragrant scent of amber into the air.

Amber oil, powder and pills manufactured on site and delivered to the treatment rooms and pools sited along the main deck of the building. A restaurant and overnight accommodation provide replenishment and security from the treatment areas.
