The building is located in a residential neighbourhood in a Conservation area in
The scheme makes full use of the potential of the site by creating a new single-storey building above ground and an underground level below, as an addition to the existing 19th century building.
The lower ground floor is conceived as the main living area, an open plan space wrapping around the internal double height courtyard and rear garden.
Upstairs the main entrance level is connected to the existing building and the living area below by a translucent staircase allowing light from the skylight above into the spaces.
My involvement in the project started just after the project had reached Tender Action and continued though the Production of Information and Construction stages.
